Trick Art

This image is using depth perception.
It appears that the whale is coming out of the photo frame,
as shown by the lady posing with the picture.
The lady appears to be attempting to stop the whale from coming out of the frame.
The artist also employed linear perspective in his painting.
However, in order to create the illusion, he moved to horizon line way over to the left
so the right sideappears much bigger.

The lady herself in this picture is an illusion because she is using space to create a perceived event.
She is not actually holding back the whale, but it looks like it.
I really like this piece of art because I think it is quite funny.
There's a whale coming out of a wall and a tiny girl trying to hold it back.
Probably not too likely, yet enjoyable.

Trick art museum
For some reason, trick art museums haven’t really taken off in other countries, but in South-Korea, they seem to be pretty big. In fact, there are 2 of them (maybe even 3) in Seoul alone and I’m sure there was one on Jeju island too. Eventhough they house different artworks, the concept is pretty much the same so I only visited one of them in Seoul.

One of the most famous works in trick art museum

As the name explains it, the museum consist of paintings and artworks where there is “some trick” to it. More than often this means that the 2-D paintings seem to have a 3 dimensional effect by use of shadows and depending on your point of view. The most fun part about this is that you yourself can be part of the painting too,
creating hilarious outcomes.

Eventhough I’m traveling by myself, it is HIGHLY recommended to visit a trick art museum in group or with your friends. I managed to find a couple of couchsurfers who were willing to join me this time. So try to find some people to go with you, at least to take pictures of you with the paintings, which makes up for most of the experience. For some of them you might need a couple of tries though since it might be difficult at times to find the right angle for the picture to work out.
Trick Art Museum
'I hate January...,cold weather...,christmas is over...,nothing to do...,I am definitely going to improve my lifestyle and stick to my new year resolutions this year...blah blah blah....',same old story every year.To be honest,I am still unsure how such a month can bring so much doom and gloom to peoples lives-why treat it any different to any other month. No matter what time of the year it is,there is always something to do to keep you entertained and your spirits up,I reckon anyways.

Today,a group of us decided to get together and take a trip to the Trick Art exhibition in the Exco building here in Daegu. It's fair to say that outdoor activities in Daegu are very much restricted at the moment due to the artic conditions but there is still plenty to do indoors. This was my first ever trip to an art museum but I can safely say that this is not your typical set up..how many art galleries have you been to that involve doing handstands besides the paintings to show the full effect of the 'masterpiece'??The improvisation that us waeguks showed had many Koreans following us around like a shower of desperate paparrazi photographers looking for that money shot! All in all a good days craic!
